To commemorate the publication of “Livelihood and the Environment in Vietnam, Springer,” jointly authored by faculty members of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies (GSGES) and their Vietnamese counterparts, a workshop on Livelihood and the Environment in Vietnam was held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the GSGES main lecture room on the second floor of the Research Bldg. No 5 at Yoshida Campus of Kyoto University. The workshop was attended by 30 researchers, including the authors.
The workshop began with an explanation of the background of this book and Chapter 1 by Professor Emeritus Shigeo Fujii, followed by an overview of Vietnam (Chapter 2) by Associate Professor Hitoshi Shinjo, environmental laws and policies (Chapter 3) by Professor Emeritus Shigeo Fujii, life and environment in rural areas (Chapter 4) by Professor Izuru Saizen, life and environment in urban areas (Chapter 5) by Associate Professor Hidenori Harada, and future prospective of Vietnam’s sustainable development life and environment in urban areas (Chapter 6) by Professor Hirohide Kobayashi. These presentations were followed by a lively Q&A session and active discussion.
After the workshop, the audience moved to the main conference room on the first floor for an exchange of opinions.
More than half of the participants in the workshop were individuals from outside Kyoto University who are studying Vietnam, making the workshop a valuable opportunity to exchange information and to look ahead to the future GSGES activities in Vietnam.
